TELCO launched the Living Wage Campaign at its 2001 Annual Assembly in Walthamstow Assembly Halls. A chronology is available here: It took 3 years before the first victory - for hundreds of low-paid domestic workers in East London Hospitals. 2004 was a turning point in the campaign: victories in Barclays and HSBC began sweeping success of the Living Wage for cleaners across Canary Wharf and the City; the deal was signed with Mayor Livingstone and Lord Coe for the world's first ever Living Wage Olympics; and Mayor Livingstone committed to set up the Living Wage Unit in City Hall and become the first city in Europe with an official Living Wage. The latest GLA Living Wage report is available: Now, the London Citizens Living Wage Campaign has had success across Higher Education, Government buildings, Local Authorities and across the 3rd Sector. We have launched the Living Wage Employer Awards scheme to recognise good practice. The business case for the Living Wage has been strongly made by Living Wage Wage Employers including KPMG and Queen Mary University. For a summary of the business case click here: The Living Wage has been enthusiastically adopted and championed by Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson and has been adopted from Cardiff to Glasgow.
